Niall Hughes is a Lecturer in Economics at King’s Business School, King’s College London. He joined in 2017 following a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at the University of Warwick (2013–2017). He holds a PhD in Economics from the European University Institute (2013), with additional degrees from Tilburg University (MSc, 2008), Trinity College Dublin (BA, 2007), and an MRes from the European University Institute (2009). His research focuses on Political Economy, Game Theory, Applied Microeconomic Theory, and Experimental Economics, with an emphasis on legislative voting behavior, information aggregation in committees, and accountability mechanisms.
Research highlights include studies on transparency’s impact on committee decision-making and the strategic dynamics of legislative elections. His work has been published in the Journal of Economic Theory and American Economic Journal: Microeconomics. Hughes actively organizes academic workshops, including the POLECONUK conference and the Political Economy-Public Economics series at Warwick. He teaches advanced courses in Microeconomics, Game Theory, and the Political Economy of Conflict.
Academic service includes roles as Co-Director and Deputy Director of the BSc Economics program at King’s. His presentations span global institutions, including the American Political Science Association and European Public Choice Society. He fluently speaks English and Irish, with intermediate Italian proficiency.
