Professor Niall Finneran is a Faculty member in the School of Humanities at the University of Winchester, specializing in Historical Archaeology and Heritage Studies. He holds a Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy and is a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London. His academic journey includes studies at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, University College London, and Cambridge University, where he completed a PhD on Aksum’s landscape archaeology.
Dr. Finneran’s research focuses on Caribbean historical archaeology, maritime archaeology, and African heritage management. Key geographical foci include the eastern Caribbean, Brazil (Pernambuco state), and southwest England. His work explores creolisation, maritime ethnography, and community-driven heritage projects, such as the Speightstown Community Archaeology Project in Barbados and collaborations with the Garifuna in St. Vincent.
