Dr. Nerida Spina is an Associate Professor in the School of Education at Queensland University of Technology (QUT). Her research focuses on educational accountability, social justice, and the impact of data-driven policies on teachers, students, and school leaders. She holds a PhD from QUT and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (UK). Her work explores how education policies influence teaching practices, particularly in contexts of equity and inclusion.
Key research interests include assessment practices, the datafication of education, and the experiences of precarious academic workers. She has led projects such as the Stronger Smarter Research Evaluation Team and contributed to an Australian Research Council grant on ethical leadership. Dr. Spina has received multiple awards, including the ACEL Research Award (2017) and QUT Vice Chancellor's Excellence Awards (2016, 2020).
Teaching specialties include the sociology of education and the Quality Teaching Performance Assessment. She collaborates on initiatives like trauma-informed pedagogy and inclusive education in Bhutan.
