Prof. Nenad Pavin is a Full Professor in the Theoretical Physics Department at the University of Zagreb's Faculty of Science. He has been employed since 1993, progressing from Teaching Assistant to Associate Professor (2013-2019) before attaining his current rank. His research focuses on biophysical modeling of the mitotic spindle, molecular motors, and chromosome dynamics. He leads projects such as the ERC Synergy Grant (2020-2026) on aneuploidy mechanisms and the Croatian Science Foundation's 'Balance of Forces and Torques in the Mitotic Spindle' (2020-2024).
- PhD in Physics (1999)
- mr.sc. (Master's equivalent, 1998)
- Bachelor's in Physics (1993)
Research interests emphasize the mechanics of microtubules, spindle architecture, and chromosome segregation. Recent work includes modeling spindle scaling laws and the role of chiral forces. Awards include EMBO membership (2024).
Teaching includes undergraduate/graduate courses in Biophysics and Cell Biophysics. Key collaborators include Prof. Iva Tolić and international teams at MIT and Hubrecht Institute. His lab's projects involve experimental/theoretical collaborations on mitotic spindle mechanics and aneuploidy consequences.
