Nenad Marić is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Forestry, University of Belgrade, specializing in hydrogeology within the Department of Environmental Engineering in the Protection of Soil and Water Resources. He holds professional certifications as a hydrogeologist by both the Serbian Chamber of Engineers and the European Federation of Geologists, and serves on the Panel of Experts for Hydrogeology of the European Federation of Geologists.
His educational background includes:
- Bachelor's degree from the School of Chemical and Food Technology in Belgrade (2005)
- Graduate studies at the Department of Hydrogeology, Faculty of Mining and Geology (2010)
- Doctoral degree from the Department of Hydrogeology, Faculty of Mining and Geology (2016)
Marić's research focuses on hydrogeology, particularly groundwater contamination and remediation of petroleum hydrocarbons, biodegradation mechanisms, and the influence of groundwater on geomorphological processes. His work combines field studies in Serbian locations like Vitanovac and Kikinda with advanced laboratory analysis and modeling techniques. He has conducted professional training at Western Kentucky University in groundwater tracing and bioremediation as a Fulbright scholar.
His publication record shows consistent focus on environmental hydrogeology, with particular emphasis on petroleum hydrocarbon contamination and bioremediation strategies. The research spans field studies in Serbia, laboratory analyses, and modeling approaches, demonstrating both theoretical and practical applications in groundwater protection and remediation across multiple Serbian regions including Vojvodina and western Serbia.
Notable professional recognitions include:
- Fulbright Visiting Scholar award for post-doctoral research in groundwater bioremediation (2020-2021)
- Certification as a European Geologist by the European Federation of Geologists
- Membership in the Panel of Experts for Hydrogeology
- Serbian Chamber of Engineers License (392; 492)
Marić has coordinated the GRACE project (2021-2023) funded by the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia, focusing on cooperation between Serbian science and the diaspora. He served as technical secretary on the board of the Serbian Geological Society (2020-2024) and reviews for multiple international scientific journals. His teaching portfolio spans undergraduate, master's, and doctoral programs across Landscape Architecture, Environmental Engineering, and Forestry disciplines, including courses in Hydrogeology with Geomorphology, Applied Geomorphology, and River Basin Management.
He leads research efforts in groundwater protection and remediation, collaborating with international institutions like Western Kentucky University's Crawford Hydrology Laboratory and Center for Human GeoEnvironmental Studies, while addressing critical environmental challenges in Serbian water resources.
