Saša Marić is a Full Professor at the Faculty of Biology, University of Belgrade, specializing in Ichthyology. His research encompasses morphology, systematics, phylogeny, phylogeography, and conservation biology of freshwater fish species. He has been affiliated with the institution since 2000, progressing from Assistant Trainee to Full Professor (achieved in 2023).
Prof. Marić completed his doctoral dissertation (2005), Master's thesis (2002), and initial thesis defense (2000) at the University of Belgrade's Faculty of Biology. His academic promotions include: Assistant (2003), Assistant Professor (2006), Associate Professor (2013), and Full Professor (2023).
His research focuses on:
- Evolutionary patterns in Balkan and European freshwater ecosystems
- Molecular systematics of salmonids and other ichthyofauna
- Conservation genetics of endangered species
- Impacts of anthropogenic activities on aquatic biodiversity
