- Education: BA in Archaeology (University of Crete, 1988), MSc in Archaeological Computing (University of Southampton, 1990), PhD in Paleolithic Archaeology (University of Cambridge, 1996).
Her research explores hominin dispersals across the Aegean region, analyzing lithic technologies, environmental adaptations, and underwater cultural heritage. Recent studies focus on Acheulean settlement patterns in Lesbos, Neanderthal mobility in the Mani Peninsula, and geochemical taphonomy of prehistoric sites. She employs predictive modeling and interdisciplinary methods combining geoscience and archaeology.
Her publications emphasize submerged landscapes and Early-Middle Pleistocene archaeology, with fieldwork spanning Greece, Croatia, and Israel. She also investigates archaeological representation in children’s literature and gender archaeology through the AGE network.
Galanidou currently serves as visiting professor at the University of York’s Department of Archaeology and directs the Educational Collections of Casts and Prototypes Laboratory. She advises the ERC-funded DISPERSE project and contributes to marine cultural heritage policy through European networks.
