They are a member of the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research, Centre for Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences, and ClimateUEA. Dr. Vaughan holds a PhD in Climate Change Mitigation and Geoengineering from UEA (2010) and a BSc in Geography from the University of Edinburgh (2005).
Research focuses on societal responses to climate change, including mitigation, adaptation, and carbon dioxide removal (CDR). Key projects include the NERC-funded FAB-GGR consortium (2018–2022) and the Leverhulme-funded Beyond Cost & Carbon project. They co-lead the CDRMIP initiative, assessing CDR through model intercomparison.
Teaching includes leading the 'Our World' module for Geography/Environmental Sciences undergraduates and co-leading the MSc 'Pathways to Net Zero'. Awards include the 2021 Philip Leverhulme Prize for Earth Sciences. Current research explores CDR implementation challenges, stakeholder engagement, and policy frameworks for net zero.
