Jason Chilvers is Professor of Environment and Society at the University of East Anglia’s School of Environmental Sciences, where he chairs the 3S Research Group. His work bridges science and technology studies (STS) and geography to examine evolving science-society-democracy dynamics in energy, climate, and sustainability contexts.
- Key contributions include retheorizing participatory practices as situated experiments, participation expertise, and ecologies of participation.
- Co-authored the seminal 2016 book Remaking Participation, which won the EASST Amsterdamska Award (2018).
His research spans climate change, geoengineering, smart technologies, and energy transitions, focusing on reflexive learning, responsible innovation, and systemic participation frameworks. Recent empirical work includes projects like the UK Energy Research Centre Observatory for Societal Engagement with Energy and the FAB-GGR study on greenhouse gas removal.
