Nellinne Perera is a Lecturer in Psychology at the University of Leicester and a Chartered Psychologist. She holds dual roles as Deputy Programme Director for the MSc Psychology (distance learning) and part-time Teaching Fellow in Psychology at King’s College London. Her academic journey includes a BSc (dual honours in Music and Psychology) and MRes from the University of Keele, followed by a PhD from Manchester Metropolitan University, conducted in collaboration with the Royal Northern College of Music.
Her research focuses on the intersection of leisure activities, musicians’ health, and wellbeing. Key themes include the role of music practice and performance on psychological wellbeing, with a particular emphasis on professional and student musicians. Her doctoral work, supervised by Prof. Jane Ginsborg, Dr. Alinka Greasley, and Dr. Zoe Franklin, explored these topics in depth.
Nellinne is actively involved in educational leadership, contributing to curriculum design and student support in distance learning programs. Her teaching spans both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, integrating her research expertise into pedagogical practices. Awards include recognition as a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, underscoring her commitment to teaching excellence.
