Dr Amy Beeston is a Research Fellow at the School of Music, University of Leeds. Her work bridges acoustics, psychophysics, and computer science to advance understanding of human sound perception and machine listening systems. She combines music and science in all her research endeavors.
- Education: Undergraduate in Music Technology (University of Edinburgh), Master's in Sonology (Royal Conservatory, The Hague), PhD in Computer Science (University of Sheffield)
Research Focus:
• Compensation for reverberation in auditory perception
• Development of robust machine listeners for real-world applications
• Interdisciplinary studies of music listening behavior in hearing-impaired individuals
Current projects at Leeds (since 2017) examine how people with hearing impairments interact with music, collaborating with Alinka Greasley and Harriet Crook. Her expertise spans computer-assisted language learning and medical computing applications.
