Nellie Hermann is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of English at Columbia University. She serves as Creative Director of the Program in Narrative Medicine, integrating literary and medical practices. Her work spans fiction, non-fiction, and academic contributions, with a focus on narrative’s role in healthcare and human experience.
Research interests include narrative medicine, creative writing pedagogy, and the intersection of literature with medical education. She has published two novels and contributed to academic venues like Academic Medicine.
Her awards include a 2016 NEA Literature Fellowship and a 2017-18 Cullman Fellowship at the New York Public Library. She teaches narrative medicine to medical students, clinicians, and undergraduates, emphasizing storytelling as a tool for empathy and professional development.
