Professor Nelarine Cornelius holds the position of Professor of Organisation Studies at Queen Mary University of London's School of Business and Management. She is a member of the Department of People and Organisations and the Centre for Research in Equality and Diversity (CRED). Her roles include former Associate Dean for People, Culture, and Inclusion (2017–2023), Co-Chair of the School’s Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee, and participation in College-level EDI groups. She also serves as Deputy Editor of Business and Society and Associate Editor of the Journal of Business Ethics.
Her research focuses on social justice, business ethics, management practices in emerging economies, and the capabilities approach. Key areas include equality, diversity, corporate social responsibility, and historical antecedents of management systems in regions like Nigeria, Pakistan, and Lebanon. Her work bridges global North-South dynamics, exploring how colonial legacies influence contemporary management frameworks.
Recent publications (2020–2024) address ethnic inequalities in Nigeria’s banking sector, reimagining business ethics, and the intersection of colonial policies with modern labor practices. She has contributed to over 50 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, emphasizing critical perspectives on diversity, CSR, and business history.
Professor Cornelius holds multiple fellowships, including Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and Fellow of the British Academy of Management. Her external roles include Academic Policy Advisor for Wales’ Anti-Racism Action Plan, Board Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, and Trustee of the National Life Stories (British Library). She has supervised over a dozen PhD students, focusing on themes like CSR in China, socio-political activism, and Nigerian corporate apprenticeship systems.
Her research projects include analyses of race at work surveys, financial wellbeing by ethnicity, and mental health policies in UK business schools. Grants include funding from the British Academy of Management and the Money and Pensions Service.
Professor Cornelius is a Visiting Professor at University of Paris 10 and Distinguished Visiting Professor at the University of Lagos, reflecting her global academic influence. Her work integrates historical, ethical, and contemporary management challenges to advance socially responsible business practices.
