Neal Lucas Hitch is a Special Faculty member at Carnegie Mellon University, serving as an educator, designer, and curator. His research focuses on radical participatory design, blending human-environment interactions with architecture, sculpture, and landscape design. He co-founded i/thee LLC, an internationally recognized interdisciplinary design firm. Since 2024, he curates the Bethel Woods Art and Architecture Festival. Neal holds a Master of Science in Design Technology from Cornell University, a Master of Architecture from Judson University, and studied at the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London.

Research Interests: Neal explores participatory design methodologies that integrate communities and technologies, emphasizing sustainability and circular economies through computational tools like AI and parametric design. His work bridges architecture, landscape, and sculpture, advocating for creative citizenship in urban and environmental design.
Teaching & Workshops: At Carnegie Mellon, he teaches courses such as Design Fabrication and Praxis Studio I, focusing on sustainable materials and digital fabrication. He also leads design-build workshops for institutions like Hello Wood Festival and Bethel Woods, emphasizing hands-on, community-driven projects.
Labs & Collaborations: Neal’s practice extends through i/thee LLC and collaborations with festivals, where he experiments with participatory design and material innovation. His residencies at Oakes Creek Ranch and Compound Yellow further inform his exploration of site-specific and sustainable architectural interventions.
