Nazia Tarannum serves as Adjunct Faculty at Carnegie Mellon University's School of Architecture and Principal Planner for Community Planning with Pittsburgh's Department of City Planning (DCP). Her career bridges architectural practice and urban planning through critical design thinking and community-centered approaches to neighborhood sustainability.
Her academic credentials include a Master of Architecture (MArch) from Miami University's College of Creative Arts and a Bachelor of Architecture (BArch) from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).
Nazia's research focuses on critical urban justice frameworks, emphasizing the intersection of social equity and climate resilience in design. She champions the Fourth Ecology concept through interdisciplinary collaboration, with expertise spanning public space revitalization, liminal urban voids, and community-driven neighborhood transformation. Her work consistently centers marginalized voices in urban development processes.
Recognition includes the AIA Ohio Foundation Award for Academic Excellence for her master's research on Dhaka's public spaces.
