Nazia Alam, Ph.D. is an Instructor at the Laboratory for Neural Redox Biology and Homeostatic Transcription within the Burke Neurological Institute. Her work focuses on neurodegenerative diseases, vision science, and mitochondrial biology, with a particular emphasis on neurological recovery and neuroprotection. Associated with the Ratan Lab, she investigates conditions such as stroke and traumatic brain injury.
Her research spans retinal biology, neuroglial signaling, and age-related vision impairment. Recent studies include the development of mitochondrial-acting peptides for vision restoration and the use of tracking-based assessments for children with brain injury.
