Ishraq Alim, Ph.D. is a former Postdoctoral Fellow at the Burke Neurological Institute, affiliated with Cornell University’s Weill Cornell Medicine. His research focuses on neuroprotection strategies for neurological disorders, particularly stroke, spinal cord injury, and neurodegenerative diseases. Central themes include ferroptosis inhibition, mitochondrial dysfunction mitigation, and cellular stress responses.
Key projects include investigating selenoproteins’ role in blocking ferroptosis during stroke and exploring antiviral agents like tilorone for neuroprotection. His work integrates molecular biology and translational neuroscience to develop therapies addressing ischemic brain injury and neuronal cell death mechanisms.
Alim’s research is conducted within the Ratan Lab, part of the Laboratory for Neural Redox Biology and Homeostatic Transcription. He has contributed to understanding oxytosis and HIF signaling pathways in neuronal survival.
