Nathan Thomas

Nathan Thomas is a Senior Lecturer at the University of South Wales, affiliated with the Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Science. He holds multiple leadership roles including Course Leader for the MSc Computing and Information Systems and BSc Information Communication Technology programs. His responsibilities encompass final year project coordination, timetabling, pastoral tutoring, and field trip organization. He is a CAA-qualified drone pilot and actively involved in community outreach through the USW 2030 Strategy.

His research interests focus on innovative applications of technology, such as drones for environmental GIS projects, IoT, and 3D printing. Notable projects include drone-based monitoring of landslides in Welsh Valleys, coastal erosion, invasive species classification, and fire break analysis in Brecon Beacons. He also explores smart city technologies, exemplified by work on the Cardiff Bay Barrage project.
