Nathan McClain is an Assistant Professor of Creative Writing and African American Literary Arts at Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts. His academic and creative work bridges poetry, ecopoetics, and Black cultural studies, with a focus on redefining literary traditions through diverse perspectives.
McClain holds an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from Warren Wilson College. He has taught at Seton Hall, Drew University, and St. Joseph's College, and has conducted poetry workshops for the Cave Canem Foundation.
- Research Interests: Centered on lyric and long-form poetry, ecopoetics, environmental justice, and Black joy as a philosophical and literary framework.
- Courses Taught: Topics in Craft: The Lyric Poem, Black Nature: Survey of Black and Brown Environmental Writing, On The Long Poem: Intermediate Poetry Workshop, and Black Joy: An Ontology.
