Nathan Mackley is a Lecturer and Adult AESIP (Approved Educator and Supervisor in Practice) in the Registered Nurse Degree Apprenticeship program at the University of Sunderland. He joined the university in 2022 as an Academic Tutor and transitioned from a clinical background in emergency medicine. His academic roles include teaching across all five years of the nurse apprenticeship program (Levels 4, 5, and 6) and serving as a dissertation supervisor. His research interests focus on student belonging, stemming from his Master of Education dissertation.
Previously, he worked in the private health and social care sector for over a decade, with clinical experience in A&E departments. He holds a Master of Education from the University of Sunderland and remains passionate about bridging clinical practice with educational innovation.
Teaching areas include the Registered Nurse Degree Apprenticeship program, emphasizing a student-centered approach. He is based at the John Dawson Sciences Complex, Dale 109.
