Nathan Goodale is a Professor of Anthropology and Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs at Hamilton College, with affiliations as Co-Director of Geoarchaeology. His research focuses on anthropological archaeology, specializing in the rise of complex hunter-gatherers, forager-farmer transitions, and rural coastal adaptations. He holds a Ph.D. in Anthropology from Washington State University and has taught courses ranging from Method and Theory in Archaeology to Geographic Information Systems.
Research interests include paleodemography, technological adaptations, and evolutionary theory. Notable awards include the 2014 Hamilton College Excellence in Teaching Award. He co-directs the Hamilton Analytical Lab and contributes to fieldwork in British Columbia, Ireland, and Southwest Asia. His work integrates quantitative methods, lithic analysis, and geochemical studies to explore human behavior and cultural evolution.
Recent publications include studies on household labor in pithouse villages, pXRF analytical practices, and geochemical analysis of ecclesiastical artifacts. His research emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches, combining archaeological science with theoretical frameworks to understand prehistoric and early historic societies.
