Nathan Garcia, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Theology at Marian University's Department of Theology. He holds a B.A. in Philosophy from St. Mary’s College of California, an M.T.S. in Systematic Theology from Boston College’s School of Theology and Ministry, and a Ph.D. in Christian Spirituality from the Oblate School of Theology. Prior to his academic career, he taught theology at an all-boys Catholic high school in San Antonio, TX for six years.
His research focuses on intersections between Latino/a spiritualities and Charles S. Peirce’s Pragmatism, psychologically-nuanced theological anthropology, and contemporary Confirmation practices in the American Catholic Church. Recent publications explore Etty Hillesum’s spirituality, Dōgen’s philosophy in anime, and Star Wars theology.
Teaching responsibilities include Introduction to Theology and upper-level courses like The Church. He actively engages with popular culture and contemporary issues in his academic work, blending theological rigor with interdisciplinary approaches.
