Dr Nathan Filer is a Reader in Creative Writing at Bath Spa University since 2014, co-directing the Research Centre for Mental Health, Wellbeing and Creativity. He holds a BSc in Mental Health Nursing, MA and PhD in Creative Writing. His research explores mental health storytelling and trauma representation.
- Affiliations: Bath Spa University, School of Writing, Publishing and the Humanities.
His acclaimed novel The Shock of the Fall (2013) won multiple awards, including Costa Book of the Year. His nonfiction The Heartland (2019) was a Sunday Times bestseller. He has contributed essays to Guardian, New York Times, and BBC Radio 4 documentaries.
Media & Awards: Mind Media Award nomination, Radio Academy ARIAS Silver Medal for podcast Why Do I Feel?, The Big Anxiety Prize, Honorary Doctorate from Abertay University.
Labs/Teams: Co-director of the Research Centre for Mental Health, Wellbeing and Creativity. Guest-lectured globally at institutions like LSE, Stockholm University, and Berlin Humboldt University.
