Nathan F. Batto is an Associate Research Fellow/Professor at the Institute of Political Science, Academia Sinica and the Election Studies Center, National Chengchi University. He specializes in legislative organization and electoral systems, with recent work examining physical violence in legislatures.
Education

His research explores why democratically elected representatives engage in physical violence, focusing on Taiwan and Ukraine and drawing on comparative cases from South Korea, Japan, Mexico, South Africa, and the United States.
Batto’s recent book, Making Punches Count: The Individual Logic of Legislative Brawls (Oxford University Press, 2024), received the 2025 Richard Fenno Prize for outstanding book in legislative studies.
