Nathan Eddingsaas

Nathan Eddingsaas is an Associate Professor at the School of Chemistry and Materials Science within the College of Science at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). His research focuses on atmospheric and environmental chemistry, with particular emphasis on the physical and chemical composition of aerosols, including studies on electronic cigarette emissions, microplastics, and climate change impacts.

Dr. Eddingsaas investigates atmospheric aerosols, exploring liquid-liquid phase separation in secondary organic aerosols, mechanoluminescence induced by acoustic cavitation, and the environmental implications of microplastics. His work bridges analytical chemistry, climate modeling, and public policy, addressing complex issues like air quality and pollution mitigation.

Recent publications highlight his contributions to understanding e-cigarette emissions, aerosol pH dynamics, and mechanoluminescence phenomena. His research often employs advanced spectroscopic techniques and environmental modeling to address both fundamental and applied questions in atmospheric chemistry.

Dr. Eddingsaas actively contributes to RIT's Chemistry MS Program and teaches courses spanning advanced general chemistry labs, climate change policy, and graduate seminars. He collaborates with interdisciplinary teams on funded projects, including RIT’s microplastics research initiative and NOAA-supported stormwater debris interception efforts.

At RIT, Dr. Eddingsaas leads graduate chemistry seminars and mentors student research projects. He has been involved in university-wide initiatives addressing environmental challenges, such as the partnership with the City of Rochester and Seneca Park Zoo on pollution cleanup.
