Nathalie Barrette serves as Full Professor and Director of the Department of Geography at Laval University's Faculty of Forestry, Geography and Geomatics. Based in the Abitibi-Price Pavilion (office 3145), she holds a leadership position in geographical sciences at one of Canada's prominent French-language universities.
Her educational background includes a Doctorate in Environmental Sciences from UQAM (2000), Master's degree in Environmental Sciences (1993), and Bachelor's degree in Geography (1991). Professor Barrette specializes in environmental geography with particular focus on climatology and climate change impacts.
Her research examines vulnerabilities to climatic hazards through geographical and environmental lenses, addressing critical questions about climate adaptation strategies in contemporary society. She actively contributes to interdisciplinary environmental research through her membership in the Institute for Environment, Development and Society (IEDS).
Professor Barrette currently leads significant research initiatives including RIISQ (Réseau inondations inter-sectoriel du Québec), a major intersectoral flood management network running from 2018-2028, demonstrating her leadership in climate change adaptation research.

Professor Barrette currently supervises four doctoral students and one master's student, with two successful doctoral completions in the past five years. Her continuous research funding includes major multi-year grants for institutional support of RIISQ (2019-2028) and flood risk management projects through 2025.
