Martin Simard is a Full Professor at the Department of Geography within Laval University's Faculty of Forestry, Geography and Geomatics. His research focuses on landscape ecology, forest ecology, and dendrochronology, particularly examining forest disturbances like fires and insect epidemics. He teaches courses in Natural Environments, Landscape Ecology, and Dendrochronology at both undergraduate and graduate levels.

His recent work analyzes climate impacts on boreal forest ecosystems, including spruce budworm outbreaks and vegetation changes in Nunavik. He collaborates with multidisciplinary teams across Quebec institutions and leads studies on frost effects, shrub radial growth, and ecosystem state shifts under climate warming.

He supervises students in Biology, Forest Sciences, and Geographical Sciences while serving as a regular member of the Centre for Nordic Studies and Forest Study Center.
