Natasha Ruiz-Gomez is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Essex's School of Philosophical, Historical, and Interdisciplinary Studies, specializing in 19th- and early 20th-century French art and visual culture, particularly the intersection of art and medicine. She holds a PhD from the University of Pennsylvania, alongside MA and BA degrees from Columbia University. Her research focuses on Auguste Rodin, the Salpêtrière School under Dr. Jean-Martin Charcot, and reproducibility in art. She serves as Editor of The Sculpture Journal and co-edits a forthcoming volume on Borderline Bodies in Art and Visual Culture. Her book Pathology and Visual Culture (2024) examines medical visual practices at the Salpêtrière Hospital. Awards include a Leverhulme Research Fellowship and teaching accolades from the University of Pennsylvania. Natasha advises doctoral students on 19th-century art, sculpture, and art-science intersections.
