Sean Willcock is a Lecturer in History of Art at Oxford University's Department for Continuing Education, where he directs Certificate and Diploma programs. Previously, he held teaching roles at Birkbeck, University of London (Leverhulme Early Career Fellow), Savannah College of Art and Design, Hong Kong, and Yale in London. His research focuses on 19th-century art, photography, and print culture in the context of British imperial visual legacies.

Willcock's publications examine intersections between Victorian colonialism, visual archives, and historical violence. His 2021 monograph Victorian Visions of War and Peace analyzes how photography and the illustrated press shaped Victorian colonial experiences through war imagery, landscape art, and museum cultures. His current research explores art-violence dynamics during the Victorian era.
His work has received funding from major institutions including the Art and Humanities Research Council, Paul Mellon Centre for British Art, and Leverhulme Trust. Key themes include visual sovereignty, ephemeral war imagery, and digitized historical photography as tools for understanding colonial power structures.
