Nataly Gutierrez Isaza is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Marine PalaeoEcology Lab, The University of Queensland. Her research focuses on coral reef dynamics, climate change impacts, and the ecological adaptations of coral species to environmental shifts. She holds a PhD from The University of Queensland (2017–2022), where she investigated coral larvae stoichiometry along eastern Australia's latitudinal gradient under the supervision of Dr. Jonh Pandolfi. Her work bridges paleoecology and modern ecology to understand reef resilience. Nataly earned a Bachelor's in Biology in Colombia and an M.Sc. in Natural Resources and Rural Development in Mexico.
Her research interests include coral-algae competition, drivers of reef degradation, and the role of ecological traits in species adaptation to climate change. She contributes to interdisciplinary studies on reef resilience, collaborating with institutions like the ARC Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies (headquartered at James Cook University).
Nataly has been involved in high-impact studies, such as a 2022 analysis on climate change impacts on fisheries and vulnerable communities, and research on coral reef biodiversity loss linked to coral decline. While no specific grants are detailed, her postdoctoral work reflects ongoing engagement with marine conservation challenges.
