Natalie Carter is a PhD Candidate in the Department of Geography at the University of Cambridge, where she researches the gendered dynamics of (post)conflict conservation in Karamoja, Uganda. She is funded by the Cambridge Trust and contributes to academic discourse on decolonized conservation and feminist geographies.
- Education: BA in History and International Politics (University of Melbourne, 2018), MSc in Environmental Policy and Regulation (London School of Economics, 2021), and current PhD candidate (University of Cambridge, 2023–present).
Her work combines feminist and affective geographies to explore how gendered actors shape conservation corridors in conflict-affected landscapes. She aligns with global biodiversity goals like the 30×30 Target while challenging dominant conservation narratives through ethnographic and historical methods.
- Scientific Awards: University Fieldwork Fund, Frederick Soddy Postgraduate Award, Philip Lake II Fund, and Cambridge Trust full funding.
She also serves as an Undergraduate Supervisor for Part IB Paper 3 at Cambridge, focusing on development theories and practice. Her fieldwork and consultancy roles with organizations like Airhive and the Firoz Lalji Institute for Africa further underscore her engagement with applied conservation research.
