Ponsiano Bimeny is a Visiting Research Fellow at the Firoz Lalji Institute for Africa (FLIA), SOAS University of London, specializing in African development, state formation, and conflict resolution within Sub-Saharan contexts.
His academic credentials include:
- PhD in Development Studies from SOAS University of London
- MSc in Violence, Conflict and Development from SOAS University of London
His research examines citizenship and identity dynamics in conflict zones, particularly South Sudan's state formation processes through the lens of the 2005 political settlement and subsequent government-paramilitary conflicts. Fieldwork constraints necessitated data collection from South Sudanese constituents in Uganda and Kenya. Current projects analyze post-conflict resilience in Northern Uganda's Acholi and Karamoja regions under FLIA's Deconstructing Notions of Resilience initiative, while maintaining ongoing advisory roles for SOAS's Centre of African Studies since 2016.
Professional experience spans over six years implementing UNICEF-funded programs in Northern Uganda, notably managing the Government of Uganda's "Justice for Children" initiative. His methodological approach integrates field-based analysis of violence, gender, environmental security, and humanitarian responses in fragile states across the African Great Lakes Region.
