Natalie Adamson is Professor of Art History at the University of St Andrews, specializing in modern and postwar French art. Her research examines abstract painting, surrealism, and photography through philosophical, political, and transnational lenses. Current projects include monographs on Pierre Soulages and a Companion to French Art.
Research Themes: Explores materiality in abstract painting, cultural politics of the École de Paris, and transatlantic artistic exchanges. Recent work analyzes Pierre Soulages' practice in relation to existential phenomenology.
Leadership: Former Deputy Editor of Art History journal and recipient of major grants from Leverhulme, Getty, and AHRC. Supervises doctoral research on photography and abstraction.
