Natalia Sassu Suarez Ferri is a Lecturer and Director of Teaching in the School of Art History at the University of St Andrews. She holds a PhD from the same institution and advanced degrees in Modern Art (Università Ca’ Foscari, Venice) and Arts Management (Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge). Her research focuses on 20th-century Latin American art, particularly Venezuelan Kineticism and the work of Carlos Cruz-Diez, exploring transcontinental cultural links, color theory, and socio-political dimensions of public art. She teaches Honors modules on Modernism, Postmodernism, and Latin American contemporary art.
Her educational background includes undergraduate studies in Cultural Heritage Science at Università Cattolica (Milan) and professional experience with Laurence King Publishing (London) and the Associazione Amici dell’Arte di Aligi Sassu in Milan. Research interests extend to Henri Matisse and the Italian Corrente group, reflecting her engagement with transnational art histories.
Natalia’s recent work examines how Venezuelan kinetic public art has acquired new socio-political significance amid contemporary crises. She has contributed to exhibitions and publications, including co-editing Transmission and Gender: Women Artists as Teachers in the XXth Century (2023) and curating studies on Aligi Sassu and Corrente. Her articles and chapters address pedagogy, migration’s impact on art, and gender dynamics in art education.
She is affiliated with the Centre for Contemporary Art at St Andrews and collaborates internationally on projects linking art history to cultural politics. No formal academic awards are listed, but her scholarly output reflects sustained recognition in her field.
