Dr Natacha Postel-Vinay is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economic History at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). Her research focuses on financial crises, banking systems, and public finance, with particular expertise in the economic history of the Great Depression and its regulatory aftermath. She examines topics including bank risk-taking, crisis resolution, taxation, and the distributive impacts of fiscal policies. Dr Postel-Vinay teaches courses on monetary and financial history, including EH430 (Monetary and Financial History) and EH439 (History of Banking Systems).
Her research combines large historical datasets and archival materials to analyze issues such as mortgage crises, public debt, and fiscal policy effects. Notable publications include studies on Germany’s banking risks during the interwar period and tax policies in Britain. She has received awards including the Economic History Society's New Researcher Prize (2013) and was a finalist for the Economic History Association’s Nevins Dissertation Prize (2015).
Current projects include collaborations on banking liability reforms and Swedish financial policies. She actively engages with media, contributing to BBC, Bloomberg, and Guardian analyses of modern financial crises, emphasizing historical parallels. Her work bridges historical analysis with contemporary policy debates, advocating for lessons from past crises to inform modern governance.
