Dr. Nat Munro is a Professor of Speech Pathology at Southern Cross University’s Faculty of Health. She holds a BAppSc, GradCert Edu, and PhD. With over 25 years as a practicing speech-language pathologist, she has leadership experience, including Course Director roles and mentoring in the APRU Asia-Pacific Women in Leadership program. She is also a research affiliate at The University of Sydney and actively involved in professional organizations like Speech Pathology Australia and IASCL.
Education: Completed her PhD at The University of Sydney (2008) on word-learning in children with language disorders and a Graduate Certificate in Higher Education in 2009.
Research interests focus on speech and language development in children with neurodevelopmental disorders, evidence-based interventions, multilingualism, and collaborative care. Her work includes over $5 million in grants and 75+ peer-reviewed publications. Awards include the DVC Research/Brown Fellowship and Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (2021).
As Editor-in-Chief of International Journal of Speech-Language Pathology and founder of SpeechBITE, she promotes interdisciplinary collaboration. Her research addresses social media use by youth with language disorders and telehealth efficacy. She has supervised numerous graduate students, many of whom have secured awards and grants.
Teaching contributions include award-winning pedagogy, co-developing professional modules on Developmental Language Disorder, and advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in education.
