Katrina Blyth is a Lecturer and researcher in Speech Pathology at the University of Sydney. She specializes in speech, swallowing, and voice rehabilitation for Head & Neck Cancer survivors and laryngectomees. Her roles include coordinating and teaching in the Masters of Speech Pathology program, supervising clinical and research students, and leading evidence-based practice initiatives.
Education: PhD in Speech Pathology (University of Sydney, 2015); BAppSc (Hons 1) in Speech Pathology (2004); BAppSc in Nursing (1999).
Research interests focus on communication rehabilitation post-cancer, telerehabilitation for head and neck cancer survivors, and motor learning techniques in dysphagia. She co-edits the Journal of Clinical Practice in Speech-Language Pathology and contributed to Speech Pathology Australia's Laryngectomy Clinical Guidelines (2023).
Recent projects include a student-led telerehabilitation program for cancer survivors (2023) and studies on Parkinson's Disease dysphagia. She received a Sydney Health Partners SEED Grant (2022-2023) for her implementation study on speech pathology telerehabilitation.
Supervision: Currently mentoring two research students - Dharshini Manoharan (Parkinson's dysphagia) and Kavija Vigneswaran (cancer-related stroke comorbidities). She also provides clinical supervision in the SPEECH Clinic.
Labs/Teams: Academic lead for the Head & Neck NSW Evidence-Based Group (2014-2022) and part of interdisciplinary teams addressing complex communication disorders.
