Nassime Chida-Madiwale is a Research Fellow in the Department of Romance Studies at Duke University's Trinity College of Arts & Sciences. As an Associate Editor of Digital Dante, her research specializes in the political and military context of Dante's Divine Comedy, particularly examining local power dynamics in medieval Italy. She completed her PhD at Columbia University in 2019 through the Department of Italian and Institute for Comparative Literature and Society.
Her research interests focus on historicized readings of power structures in Dante's Inferno, analyzing representations of tyranny, signoria emergence in northeastern Italy/Romagna, and comparative approaches to medieval historiography. Current work includes a book project examining figures like Ezzelino da Romano and Ugolino della Gherardesca through political and military frameworks.
Teaching responsibilities include courses on French/Italian language/culture and interdisciplinary seminars in Romance Studies. Recent courses include Intermediate French, Introduction to Italian Culture, and First-Year Seminars focused on Italian literary traditions.
