Professor Nasreen Ali is a Professor of Public Health Equality at the University of Bedfordshire, leading the Bedford, Luton and Milton Keynes (BLMK) Integrated Care System's Talk, Listen Change (TLC) Workforce Research Programme. She specializes in reducing health inequalities using intersectional approaches, focusing on marginalized communities' healthcare experiences.
Her education includes a PhD in Community and Individual Identity of the Kashmiri Community from the University of Luton (1999), an MA in Rural Development from the University of Sussex (1991–1992), and a BSc in Earth and Life Studies from the University of Derby (1988–1991). She also holds a PgCAP in Teaching from the University of Bedfordshire (2009).
Research interests include health disparities, community engagement, maternal and child health, mental health, and culturally competent healthcare services. She actively contributes to equality initiatives, such as the University’s Race Equality Network and Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee. Her work spans projects like evaluating breastfeeding support in deprived communities and co-producing solutions for healthcare access with diverse groups.
Dr. Ali supervises MSc and PhD students and has led over 30 research projects, securing grants totaling over £2 million. Her publications address disparities in healthcare access, vaccination hesitancy among ethnic minorities, and interventions to widen participation in healthcare professions. She also engages in policy-driven research, such as analyzing maternal risk factors in gestational diabetes across ethnic groups.
