Nara Milanich, Professor of History at Barnard College since 2004, is a leading scholar in Latin American history with a focus on family dynamics, gender studies, and social inequality. She directs Columbia University's MARSLAC Masters program and mentors PhD students in Latin American History.
- Education: B.A. from Brown University (1994), Ph.D. from Yale University (2002)
Her research explores:
- Paternity testing through historical and sociocultural lenses
- Family law in Chile and Latin America
- Reproductive justice and border politics
- Child labor and social servitude in modern Latin America

She co-founded the Dream Act Faculty Alliance and serves on editorial boards for Hispanic American Historical Review and Historia (Pontificia Univ. Católica de Chile).
