Carmen Channing is a historian at the University of Tübingen, affiliated with the Faculty of Humanities and Department of History. Her research bridges Latin American and European history, focusing on early modern maritime exploration, imagined geographies, and colonial science. She holds a MSt in History from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso, Chile, and a PhD in History from the University of Edinburgh, UK.

Channing's work interrogates the role of perceived peripheries like Patagonia in shaping European colonial ambitions. Her current project, "The South Sea in the Scientific Revolution," explores how cross-cultural interactions fostered localized scientific practices. She has published extensively on maritime history, European expeditions to Chile, and early modern knowledge systems.
