Dr. Naomi Truong is a Postdoctoral Fellow and Adjunct Lecturer at the Westmead Institute for Medical Research, affiliated with the University of Sydney's Faculty of Medicine and Health. Her research focuses on herpes simplex virus (HSV) and HIV interactions, mucosal immunity, and vaccine development. She is a member of the Sydney Infectious Diseases Institute (Sydney ID), contributing to studies on infection and immunological conditions.
Her work examines viral entry mechanisms, chemokine-driven immune responses, and the role of dendritic cells in viral transmission. She collaborates on projects defining HIV facilitation by HSV coinfection and HSV pathogenesis in human skin/mucosa. Recent studies involve corneal explant models and novel epidermal dendritic cell subsets.
Dr. Truong advises two research students: Blake Johnson (investigating HSV-HIV co-infection dynamics) and Dona Sirimanne (studying HSV skin barrier breaches). Her publications span PLoS Pathogens, Viruses, and Nature Communications, with a focus on translational immunovirology.
