Professor Naomi Shiner serves as the Faculty Director of Simulation across Medicine and Health Sciences at Keele University. A diagnostic radiographer by background, she transitioned to academia in 2013, contributing significantly to simulation-based education research. Her work focuses on enhancing healthcare education through simulation, particularly addressing emotional preparedness among students and optimizing clinical training capacity.
Shiner holds a Doctorate in Professional Practice (2022) exploring simulation and moulage effects on radiography students encountering open wounds. Her academic journey includes roles at Robert Gordon University and Derby University before joining Keele. She chairs the Society of Radiographers’ Simulation SIG and serves on the Association for Simulated Practice in Healthcare (UK) executive committee.
Her expertise earned the National Teaching Fellowship Award (2022). Research interests span simulation strategies, radiography education innovation, and healthcare workforce development. She contributes to Keele’s Virtual Patient Project and collaborates on international audits of simulation in medical radiation science training.
Shiner’s publications analyze simulation authenticity, post-pandemic training trends, and workplace factors impacting radiographer wellbeing. She advocates for policy-driven simulation strategies to enhance healthcare education quality and accessibility.
