Naomi Segal is a distinguished academic with a career spanning multiple institutions in the United Kingdom. She currently holds the title of Honorary Fellow at the Institute of Modern Languages Research (since 2019) within the School of Advanced Study, University of London. Previously, she served as Visiting Professor in French & German Studies at Birkbeck, University of London (2014–2020), and Professorial Fellow in the same department (2010–2013). Her leadership roles include founding and directing the Institute of Germanic & Romance Studies (IGRS) at the School of Advanced Study (2004–2011) and heading the Department of French Studies at the University of Reading (1999–2003).
Her scholarly focus lies in cultural studies, comparative literature, gender studies, and psychoanalysis, with expertise in 19th–20th century French and German literatures. She has explored interdisciplinary themes such as 'skin,' 'the body,' and 'the senses,' integrating literary analysis with broader cultural and theoretical frameworks.
