Mrs Naomi Ferstera is a PhD Candidate and Associate Lecturer at the School of Human Movement and Nutrition Sciences, University of Queensland. With over 20 years of experience in the health and fitness industry, she is an accredited exercise physiologist and nutritionist specializing in chronic disease management through exercise and nutritional interventions. Her research explores the interplay between neuromuscular strength, body composition, neurotrophic factors, and cognitive health in older populations.
- Dual BSc in Human Movement Studies and Secondary Education (QUT, 2009)
- Postgraduate Diploma in Human Nutrition (Deakin University, 2018)
- MPhil in Human Nutrition (University of Queensland, completed)
Her research focuses on:
- Myokines and brain health
- Neuromuscular strength-body composition-cognitive risk relationships
- High-intensity exercise interventions for cognitive outcomes in aging populations
- Long-term effects ("legacy") of exercise training on cognition
Naomi also operates a private health education business, delivering evidence-based programs to the public. Her current project, "Neuromuscular fitness, body composition, neurotrophic factors, and mild cognitive impairment; findings from the Brain Training Trial," is supervised by Professor Jeff Coombes and Dr. Shelley Keating.
