Naomi DALE is a Professor of Management and Associate Dean (Curriculum & Students) at the University of Canberra’s Canberra Business School, part of the Faculty of Business, Government and Law. She has been active in tourism education and research since 2006. Her PhD, supported by an Australian Postgraduate Award, explored school excursion destination choices in Australia. She holds leadership roles in tourism industry bodies including CEO of the Canberra Region Tourism Industry Council, Board Member of the Australian Tourism Industry Council, and Executive roles in CAUTHE and HERDSA.
Her research focuses on learning and engagement in tourism, with key themes in educational tourism, curriculum policy impacts, visitor research at cultural institutions, and national capital attractions. She explores emerging trends like social media’s role in tourism, e-platform engagement strategies, consumer behavior, and marketing. Recent work includes studies on chatbot-assisted services, cross-cultural online learning, and workforce shortages.
Naomi has led 14 research projects since 2009, including investigations into short-term rentals’ housing impacts, school excursions’ socio-economic effects, and STEM curriculum indigenization. Her publications span peer-reviewed journals and industry reports, emphasizing practical outcomes for education and policy.
She contributes to national inquiries (e.g., Canberra’s National Institutions in 2019) and advises on tourism governance strategies. Her work aligns with UN SDGs, particularly sustainable consumption and production (SDG 12) through tourism education and infrastructure projects.
