Naomi Adiv is an Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream in the Department of Political Science at the University of Toronto, part of the Faculty of Arts & Science. Her research focuses on public space, urban geography, archival research, and spaces of health and well-being. She explores themes such as privatization of public spaces, historical urban infrastructure, and the intersection of gender with spatial justice. Dr. Adiv’s work often intersects with critical urban theory and spatial policy analysis.
Her research interests include the governance of public spaces, the role of archives in urban development, and the historical evolution of urban amenities like municipal pools. She critically examines how urban policies shape accessibility and equity in cities, particularly through the lens of race, class, and gender.
Notable works include studies on user fees in public spaces, the historical geography of bathing facilities in New York City, and spatial analyses of gendered safety in public environments.
