Julie A. Podmore

Julie A. Podmore is an Affiliate Assistant Professor at Concordia University’s Department of Geography, Planning and Environment, joining as a part-time faculty member in 2000 and transitioning to her current role in 2010. She also works full-time at John Abbott College. Her research focuses on queer urbanism, LGBTQ historical geographies, and suburban place-making, with specific interests in gentrification, municipal policy diffusion, and queer cultural infrastructure.

Her recent work examines queer suburban activisms, municipal social inclusion policies, and the role of community archives in urban cultural infrastructure. She collaborates extensively with Alison Bain on SSHRC-funded projects, including Queerburbia (2025) and Queer Cultural Infrastructure (2025–2029). Publications span critical analyses of LGBTQ policy frameworks and suburban spatial practices.

Julie contributes to editorial boards and academic conferences globally, addressing topics like "Queer City as Archive" (2023) and "Mobilizing Suburban Pride" (2020). She does not directly supervise graduate students but serves on committees.
