Nancy S. Jecker is a Professor of Bioethics & Humanities at the University of Washington School of Medicine, Department of Bioethics & Humanities. She also holds adjunct professorships in the Department of Philosophy (College of Arts & Sciences) and the School of Law. She earned her Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Washington (1986), following Master’s degrees from the University of Washington and Stanford University, and a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from Stanford.
Her research focuses on bioethics, medical ethics, and health care justice. She has authored Wrong Medicine: Doctors, Patients and Futile Treatment (2nd ed.) and co-edited Bioethics: An Introduction to the History, Methods, and Practice (3rd ed.). Her work has been published in high-impact journals like the Journal of the American Medical Association and the American Journal of Bioethics.
Jecker teaches courses such as Ethical Theory, Metaethics, and Philosophical Problems in Bioethics. She is affiliated with the Neuroethics Research Group and the Program on Ethics at the University of Washington.
