Kelly Sorensen is an Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and Professor of Philosophy and Religious Studies at Ursinus College. He holds a B.S. from Brigham Young University, an M.S. from the University of Utah, and a Ph.D. from Yale University. His research focuses on ethics, including biomedical ethics, environmental ethics, metaethics, Kantian philosophy, and the philosophy of religion. He has published widely in journals such as The Journal of Philosophy, Journal of Moral Philosophy, and Neuroethics.
Professor Sorensen’s work addresses historical and contemporary ethical dilemmas, including moral repair in medical contexts, neuroethical challenges of moral enhancement, and Kantian theories of moral worth. He has co-authored studies with student researchers and led interdisciplinary courses such as Human Rights and the Korean Experience. In 2014, he received the Lindback Distinguished Teaching Award for his pedagogical excellence.
His academic contributions extend to curriculum development and global education initiatives, including a U.S. Department of State-funded study abroad program in South Korea. Sorensen advises undergraduate research projects and collaborates on ethical analyses across disciplines, blending philosophical rigor with practical applications in medicine, criminal justice, and literature.
